The Jellyfish Nebula – 22 Nights, 54 Hours, One Relentless Pursuit

From January 1st to April 9th, 2025, I dedicated 22 nights to capturing the haunting beauty of IC 443, also known as the Jellyfish Nebula. What began as a simple imaging project turned into a true test of patience, determination, and love for the night sky.

Working from a heavily light-polluted area, I faced constant challenges: intrusive streetlights, blinding flashes from neighbour’s security lights, the overpowering glow of the Moon, and a weather forecast that seemed more fiction than fact. Every session was a gamble — a waiting game between clouds and clearing skies.

Despite it all, I managed to collect over 54 hours of high-quality data:

Each subframe was hard-earned. This image isn’t just about showcasing a nebula — it’s about the perseverance it takes to reveal deep space from under the glow of suburban skies. The result is a richly detailed, full-colour composition of IC 443 that tells a story far beyond the stars.
